Youth Catechesis Programs

Faith Formation Ministries includes Catechesis and Sacramental Preparation. Catechesis (teaching the faith) educates and forms people of all ages in the Faith using a variety of educational and enrichment methods and opportunities. Sacramental Preparation prepares candidates and their families to receive Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, Confirmation, and Matrimony.

Catechesis Programs: These programs are normally in session from late September through early April each school year. Each has its own schedule to meet the expectations of the Bishop and the needs of the age group and their families. Each program format includes a combination of classroom academic instruction and community service learning opportunities.

› Preschool/Kindergarten Program: The Pre-K Program is for children 4 years old and Kindergarten is for children 5 years old.  Both programs are held during faith formation elementary sessions Sunday 8:45 – 9:45 a.m. before the 10:00 a.m. mass.  Children must be registered to attend either program.

› Elementary Program (Grades 1-5): Sunday morning classes are held from 8:45 – 9:45 a.m. before the 10:00 a.m. mass.

› Middle School Program (Grades 6-8): Sunday morning classes are held from 8:45 – 9:45 a.m. before the 10:00 a.m. mass.

› High School Program (Grades 9-10): Catechesis and sacramental preparation programs operate simultaneously to prepare youth for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Classes meet twice a month on Sunday after the 10:00 a.m. mass from 11:15 – 1:00 p.m.

Class Cancellations

Sunday Classes:  We will notify all teachers as soon as we determine weather conditions make it unsafe or unreasonable to conduct classes.  In turn, your child’s teacher will contact you.  Our goal is to notify you by 8:30 am—30 minutes before the scheduled class start time.

Tuesday Classes:  Whenever the Union-Endicott School District closes school for the day (that is, declares a “snow day”) or closes early and cancels after school activities for the day due to weather conditions, all our RE classes are also cancelled for that day.  Please consult the local media outlets (TV, radio, etc.) for school and after school cancellation notices.

Weekday cancellations are announced via radio as soon as possible; listen to  WMXW 103.5 FM, WGRG 101.7 FM, and WAAL 99.1 FM.
