Youth Catechesis Programs

Faith Formation Ministries includes Catechesis and Sacramental Preparation. Catechesis (teaching the faith) educates and forms people of all ages in the Faith using a variety of educational and enrichment methods and opportunities. Sacramental Preparation prepares candidates and their families to receive Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, Confirmation, and Matrimony.

Catechesis Programs: These programs are normally in session from late September through early April each school year. Each has its own schedule to meet the expectations of the Bishop and the needs of the age group and their families. Each program format includes a combination of classroom academic instruction and community service learning opportunities.

› Preschool/Kindergarten Program: The Pre-K Program is for children 4 years old and Kindergarten is for children 5 years old. Both programs are held during faith formation elementary sessions Sunday 8:45 – 9:45 a.m. before the 10:00 a.m. mass. Children must be registered to attend either program and are expected to attend mass weekly.

Elementary Program (Grades 1-6): Sunday morning classes are held from 8:45 – 9:45 a.m. before the 10:00 a.m. mass.  Children must be registered to attend their program and expected to attend mass weekly.

› Year 1 Confirmation Program (Begins in 7th Grade): Catechesis and sacramental preparation programs operate simultaneously to prepare youth for the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Sunday weekly classes are held from 11:15 – 12:30 p.m. after the 10:00 a.m. mass.  Youth must be registered for the Confirmation program and are expected to attend mass weekly.

› Year 2 Confirmation Program: Catechesis and sacramental preparation programs operate simultaneously to prepare youth for the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Sunday weekly classes are held from 11:15 – 12:30 p.m. after the 10:00 a.m. mass.  Youth must be registered for the Confirmation program and are expected to attend mass weekly.  Youth are confirmed the Fall of 9th Grade.

Class Cancellations

Sunday Classes:  We will notify all teachers as soon as we determine weather conditions make it unsafe or unreasonable to conduct classes.  An email will be sent to all families cancelling the session.  Our goal is to notify you by 8:00 am on Sunday morning.

Evening Events:  Whenever the Union-Endicott School District closes school for the day (that is, declares a “snow day”) or closes early and cancels after school activities for the day due to weather conditions, all events at OLGC are also cancelled for that day except for Daily Mass.

Please consult the local media outlets (TV, radio, etc.) for school and after school cancellation notices.

Weekday and weekend cancellations are announced via radio and posted on social media as soon as we know.
